Eye exams are an important part of childhood health. As children grow, they may not understand that some of their visual deficiencies are out of the norm. It is up to the eye experts to help them understand what they can expect from their eyes. When you bring them into our clinic we can learn about their vision and eyes and make sure any foreseeable problems are properly mitigated.
Most school learning is based on visual content, such as the whiteboard or reading materials. When kids are not seeing to their full potential they are not learning to their full potential. It is important to have your child’s eyes checked when they reach 6 months of age and every year after that.
A child eye exam is non-invasive and takes between 20 minutes and an hour, depending on the age of the child. Your optometrist will walk your child through the exam step-by-step, explain what all the machines do, and ensure your child is comfortable. Most children find the machines rather fun, making their subsequent appointments easy and relaxing.
It is difficult to notice eye issues in children. They often will rarely complain of eye problem themselves but there are behaviors to look out for at home.
